OMACOLD-DX SYRUP
Active Ingredients:
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (10 mg/5ml): A cough suppressant that reduces the urge to cough.
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (5 mg/5ml): A nasal decongestant that relieves stuffy nose.
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2 mg/5ml): An antihistamine that reduces allergy symptoms like runny nose and sneezing.
Description & Mechanism of Action:
- Dextromethorphan:
- Works on the brain’s cough center to suppress dry, non-productive coughs.
- Phenylephrine:
- Constricts blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing congestion and making breathing easier.
- Chlorpheniramine:
- Blocks histamine receptors, reducing symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose.
Uses:
- Dry cough (non-productive cough)
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Nasal congestion and sneezing
- Throat irritation due to allergies or infections
Dosage & Administration:
- Adults & children (above 12 years): 5-10 ml, every 6-8 hours (as prescribed).
- Children (6-12 years): 2.5-5 ml, every 6-8 hours (as prescribed).
- Shake well before use.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Side Effects:
- Drowsiness, dizziness
- Dry mouth, nausea
- Increased heart rate (rare)
- Stomach discomfort
- Mild headache
Precautions & Warnings:
- Avoid alcohol (increases drowsiness).
- Not recommended for children under 6 years without medical advice.
- Use with caution in high blood pressure and heart disease (Phenylephrine can raise blood pressure).
- May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or heavy machinery use.
- Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy & breastfeeding.
Drug Interactions:
- Sedatives & antidepressants (e.g., MAO inhibitors, benzodiazepines): Can increase drowsiness.
- Blood pressure medications: May interact with Phenylephrine.
- Other cough or cold medicines: Risk of overdose on similar ingredients.
